MezIO-C181-50 Overview
Many serial networks on a plant are differential rather than RS-232: power meters, drives and remote I/O on an RS-485 bus, or RS-422 links that run further than RS-232 typically allows. The MezIO-C181-50 is part of the Neousys MezIO-C180/C181 serial module family, and it is the version built around RS-422 and RS-485 for that kind of wiring.
The module adds four RS-422/485 ports and four RS-232/422/485 multi-mode ports to the host computer. Every port runs from 50 bps to 921.6 Kbps with 256-byte TX and RX FIFOs and ESD protection, and mode and termination on the multi-mode ports are set in the BIOS. That means one MezIO-C181-50 can run up to eight differential links, or keep a few ports on RS-232 for an older instrument. Windows 10 and Linux are supported. If most of your devices are RS-232, the MezIO-C180-50 keeps four multi-mode ports and adds four RS-232 ports instead.
We fit the MezIO-C181-50 inside the Neousys system on its high-speed board-to-board connector with three-point mezzanine mounting, then configure the port modes and termination and test the build before it ships. There is one MezIO interface per system. The module fits the Nuvo-9000, Nuvo-11000, Nuvo-11160GC, Nuvo-9160GC and Nuvo-9166GC series, and the POC-900, POC-700, POC-700-FT and POC-600 compact computers.
The eight ports share one 68-pin SCSI-II female connector on the system. Bringing all eight ports out on one connector keeps the cabling at the computer to a single run for your bus wiring or terminal blocks. On the RS-232 side, the multi-mode ports carry TxD, RxD, RTS, CTS, DTR, DSR, DCD and GND. If you send us the device list and the bus layout, we can suggest which ports to run in which mode.
