Unheated rack cabinets still need a core switch that can gather gigabit fiber from remote sites and pass it on over 10G. The LMX-2812G-4X8S-T is the extended temperature build of the Antaira LMX-2812G-4X8S series: a 28-port Layer 3 managed rackmount industrial switch, rated -40 °C to 75 °C.
Sixteen 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ45 ports handle the copper side, eight 1G SFP slots gather fiber from remote cabinets, and four 1G/2.5G/10G SFP+ slots carry 10 Gbps uplinks or a 10G ring, all with single-mode or multi-mode transceivers. Switching is store-and-forward on a 128 Gbps fabric at 95.232 Mpps, with a 32K MAC table, a 32 Mbit packet buffer, eight priority queues and 10K jumbo frames. An RS232 console in RJ45 helps with local set-up.
Layer 3 routing on the LMX-2812G-4X8S-T covers static routes, OSPFv2/v3, RIPv2/RIPng and VRRPv2/v3, with ARP, NAT and DHCP option 82, so it can route between VLANs and subnets and share a gateway with a second switch. ITU-T G.8032 ERPS handles ring redundancy, with STP, RSTP and MSTP for other layouts. The firmware also covers VLAN, QoS with DSCP, IGMP and MLD snooping, LACP, LLDP, sFlow, RMON, DDMI and Modbus TCP, with RADIUS, TACACS+, 802.1X, ACLs, IP source guard, DHCP snooping, ARP inspection, SNMP v3, HTTPS and SSHv2 securing access.
Power arrives on redundant 12 to 48 V DC inputs, and the LMX-2812G-4X8S-T draws 38.5 W, with overload current, reverse polarity and high EFT and ESD protection plus a 24 V DC, 1 A relay. It runs fanless from -40 °C to 75 °C in an IP30 metal housing for 19-inch rack mounting, with IEC 60068-2-27 shock and IEC 60068-2-6 vibration listed. Antaira lists UL 61010-1, UL Class 1 Division 2, CE and FCC, RoHS compliance and TAA and NDAA compliance, quotes an MTBF of 195,505 hours and backs it with a 5-year warranty. The LMX-2812G-4X8S is the standard temperature build rated -10 °C to 65 °C, and the LMP-2812G-4X8S adds 802.3at PoE+ to the 16 copper ports with a 480 W budget.
