Where Medical Computers Are Deployed

Medical computing sits in four places: inside the device, on the cart or at the bedside, in the imaging suite and in the laboratory or cleanroom. Each brings its own electrical safety, hygiene and display demands, so the right platform differs from one to the next.

Embedded Computers Inside the Device

A medical device OEM needs a computing platform that will still be available when the device is re-certified five years on. Fanless embedded computers and single board computers with long-life processors, documented revision control and IEC 60601-1 designed power give the OEM a platform to build the device around, with the OS image and configuration held on record for the technical file.

Built to the Standards Medical Devices Specify

Medical hardware is specified against electrical safety, display calibration and hygiene standards, and against the lifecycle the device certification demands. We select products whose datasheets state compliance with each one, and say clearly where a product is designed to a standard rather than certified to it.

IEC 60601-1

Electrical safety for medical electrical equipment, including the leakage current and isolation limits a computer in the patient vicinity has to meet.

DICOM Part 14

The greyscale display function that a diagnostic monitor is calibrated to, so an image reads the same on every screen in the department.

IP65 Front and Anti-Bacterial Fronts

Sealed, flush touchscreen fronts that can be wiped down with hospital disinfectants, with anti-bacterial coatings where the room protocol requires them.

Cleanroom Computers

Fanless cooling, sealed enclosures, particle-free surfaces and stainless steel where washdown applies, for computers used in ISO cleanrooms.

Video Capture Cards

mPCIe, M.2 and PCIe capture cards for HDMI, SDI and DVI imaging feeds from scopes, modalities and cameras.

Windows IoT Enterprise

Long-term servicing editions of Windows for medical devices that cannot take a feature update every six months.

Medical-Ready Hardware

Four product types cover most medical and pharmaceutical projects. Open one to see the ranges we specify for medical work, or go to the full category.

An Extension of Your Engineering Team

Our engineers work as part of your team, not as a reseller. We check the electrical safety, display and hygiene requirements against the device or room before you commit to a build.

Built, Imaged and Ready to Deploy

Modules, memory, storage and capture cards are fitted and the OS image loaded before shipping, so each unit is tested as a complete build and documented for the device's technical file.

Supported for the Life of the Device

Revision control, last-time-buy planning and managed technology refresh keep later units matching the certified configuration for the life of the device.
