Switch Modules for Your Own Carrier Board
An Ethernet switch module carries the switching core, packet memory and management software on a 55 x 84 mm board, so your carrier only needs magnetics, connectors and power. It cuts the design effort of building a managed switch into a vehicle, robot or instrument, with 26 or 28 ports and 10G links on most models.
Options include Layer 2+ and Layer 3 software, IEEE-1588 PTP builds, 10G SFI or 2.5G SFP links and heat sinks or heat spreaders for -40 to 85 °C operation, suited to OEMs building custom networking hardware where an off-the-shelf switch board will not fit the space or connector layout.

What to Specify in a Switch Module

Carrier Design
Plan magnetics, connectors, 5 V power and any external PHY the module expects on your carrier.
Ports and 10G Links
24 gigabit ports plus two or four 10G SFI links, or two 2.5G SFP links on the lower-cost module.

IEEE-1588 Timing
