DFI ALF51-BN-26E30 Dual-Core Intel Atom x5-E3930 Femto-ITX Embedded Board with Dual GbE and 2GB LPDDR4 Memory

A data logger or small machine controller spends most of its life doing modest work around the clock, often in a sealed box where every watt becomes heat. The ALF51-BN-26E30 is a 1.8″ Femto-ITX embedded board in the DFI ALF51 series built for that duty cycle, pairing a 6.5 W Intel Atom processor with memory and storage soldered to an 84 x 55 mm board.

The Intel Atom x5-E3930 is a dual-core Apollo Lake part running at 1.3 GHz and bursting to 1.8 GHz, which is typically enough for polling devices, logging to local storage and hosting a light web interface. It has 2 GB of single-channel LPDDR4 at 2400 MHz and 64 GB of eMMC on the board. Intel HD Graphics runs a DP++ output at up to 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz for a service screen. DFI supports Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 64-bit and Linux with UEFI boot, and a firmware TPM 2.0 and watchdog timer are on board.

For connections, two GbE ports use Intel I210 controllers, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports and a USB 2.0 header take storage or a keypad, and an RS-232/422/485 header links instruments or drives. The 8-bit DIO header handles alarms, relays or door switches, and the full-size mini PCIe socket accepts a Wi-Fi card over PCIe or USB 2.0.

The ALF51-BN-26E30 takes 12 V DC on a terminal block, cools passively with no fan, and is rated from 0 to 60 °C, with CE, FCC and RoHS compliance. If the logger will sit in an unheated cabinet, the ALF51-EN-26E30 runs the same processor from -20 to 70 °C, and the ALF51-BN-26E40 doubles the core count to four for heavier workloads.
