DFI ALF51-EN-26E40 Intel Atom x5-E3940 1.8″ Femto-ITX SBC with Dual GbE and -20 to 70 °C

Equipment in a plant room, a pump station kiosk or an unheated cabinet sees cold mornings and warm afternoons that an indoor-rated board is not specified for. The ALF51-EN-26E40 is a 1.8″ Femto-ITX SBC in the DFI ALF51 series that takes the quad-core Atom build to a -20 to 70 °C rating, without adding a fan or a larger board.

Its Intel Atom x5-E3940 has four Apollo Lake cores at 1.6 GHz, reaching 1.8 GHz, in a 9.5 W TDP, which leaves room to run protocol conversion, logging and a local interface side by side. Memory is 2 GB of LPDDR4 at 2400 MHz and storage 64 GB of eMMC, both soldered down. Intel HD Graphics drives a DP++ output at up to 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz. DFI lists Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 64-bit and Linux with UEFI boot, and a firmware TPM 2.0 and watchdog timer are included.

Two GbE ports on Intel I210 controllers can separate field devices from the site network. Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports and a USB 2.0 header add storage or a modem, one RS-232/422/485 header reaches meters and drives, and an 8-bit DIO header reads contacts and switches outputs. A full-size mini PCIe socket takes a Wi-Fi module over PCIe or USB 2.0.

The ALF51-EN-26E40 runs from 12 V DC on a terminal block and cools through its passive heatsink across -20 to 70 °C, with CE, FCC and RoHS compliance. The ALF51-EN-26E30 gives the same rating at 6.5 W on a dual-core Atom, and the ALF51-TN-26E40 extends the quad-core build to -40 to 85 °C for outdoor and vehicle enclosures.
