DFI ASL171-CT-x7835RE Intel Atom x7835RE Mini-ITX SBC with Dual 2.5GbE and -40 to 85 °C

Edge gateways and vision controllers rarely do one job. They poll PLCs, buffer data, run an analytics step and push results upstream, often from a cabinet with no heating or cooling. The ASL171-CT-x7835RE is the eight-core build in the DFI ASL171 series of industrial Mini-ITX motherboards, and it is the one to choose when those jobs need to run side by side.

Its Intel Atom x7835RE (Amston Lake) has eight cores at 1.3 to 3.6 GHz within a 12 W TDP. Memory is one DDR5 4800 MHz SO-DIMM of up to 16 GB, and Intel UHD Graphics decodes HEVC, VP9, AV1 and AVC in hardware, which keeps video work off the CPU cores. Two DP++ outputs drive 4K at 60 Hz, and the rear USB-C port adds a third display through DisplayPort Alt Mode.

Two 2.5GbE ports on Intel I226IT controllers separate a camera or machine network from the site uplink. Three rear USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, four internal USB 2.0 headers, six COM ports (two RS-232/422/485, four RS-232) and 8-bit DIO cover field devices. An M.2 B-key with Nano SIM takes a cellular module, the M.2 E-key takes Wi-Fi, and a PCIe x4 slot with x2 Gen3 signaling plus two SATA ports add a capture card or drives.

The ASL171-CT-x7835RE runs from 12 V DC on a barrel connector or 4-pin header and operates from -40 to 85 °C on its fanless heatsink, with CE, FCC, UKCA and RoHS compliance. If eight cores are more than the application needs, the quad-core ASL171-CT-x7433RE runs at 9 W with a VGA output, and ASL171-CT-x7211RE drops to two cores and 6 W for simple control.
