Machine builders often want a controller that does one loop well: poll a drive over RS-485, update a screen and report over Ethernet, all from the 24 V supply already in the machine. The ASL173-CT-x7213RE is the dual-core build in the DFI ASL173 series of Mini-ITX mainboards with the highest base clock in the range, which favours that kind of single-threaded work.

The Intel Atom x7213RE (Amston Lake) runs two cores at 2.0 to 3.4 GHz within a 9 W TDP. Memory is one DDR5 4800 MHz SO-DIMM of up to 16 GB. Intel UHD Graphics drives a DP++ output at up to 4K 60 Hz and an HDMI 2.0 output, so a standard operator monitor or signage screen connects without adapters.

Six COM ports on internal headers (two RS-232/422/485, four RS-232) and 8-bit DIO connect drives, barcode readers and stack lights. Two 2.5GbE ports on Intel I226IT controllers separate the machine network from the plant network. At the rear sit three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports and one USB 2.0 port, with four USB 2.0 headers inside. The M.2 B-key with Nano SIM, M.2 E-key, PCIe x4 slot and two SATA ports add cellular, Wi-Fi, a fieldbus or capture card and storage.

The ASL173-CT-x7213RE takes 9 to 36 V DC on a 4-pin connector or barrel connector and runs from -40 to 85 °C fanless, with CE, FCC, UKCA and RoHS compliance. For lower power on two cores, ASL173-CT-x7211RE runs at 6 W with USB-C display. For four cores at room temperature, ASL173-CB-N150 keeps the same DP and HDMI outputs.
