DFI EC700-AL-E3950-4LAN Intel Apollo Lake Atom x7-E3950 Fanless Low-Profile Embedded PC with 4x GbE

Network gateways and serial concentrators in outdoor cabinets need several Ethernet ports, plenty of serial and a wide temperature rating. The EC700-AL-E3950-4LAN brings those together in the four-LAN build of the DFI EC700-AL series: a low-profile fanless embedded PC with an Intel Atom x7-E3950, four GbE ports and four COM ports.

The Atom x7-E3950 runs four Apollo Lake cores within a 12 W TDP, which suits protocol conversion, data logging and light HMI work. Memory is 4 GB of DDR3L onboard plus one 204-pin SO-DIMM, up to 8 GB in total, and 64 GB of eMMC holds the OS. Intel HD Graphics drives two displays, and the EC700-AL-E3950-4LAN runs Windows 10 IoT or Linux, as DFI states for Apollo Lake.

Networking is four Intel I210 GbE ports on RJ45, with two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, four RS-232/422/485 ports on DB9 and one DisplayPort output at up to 4096×2160 at 60 Hz and one VGA at up to 1920×1200. Storage is a 2.5-inch SATA bay and a full-size mSATA slot, plus the onboard eMMC. A full-size Mini PCIe slot with nano-SIM takes an optional 4G module, and an M.2 2230 E key slot takes optional Wi-Fi, with antenna holes on the front panel.

Power is 9 to 36 V DC on a DC jack. DFI rates the EC700-AL-E3950-4LAN from -40 °C to 70 °C and lists CE, FCC Class A, RoHS, CCC, UL and KC compliance, and it mounts on a wall, a VESA plate or a DIN rail with optional kits. We supply it configured and tested, with memory, storage, the OS image and any 4G or Wi-Fi modules fitted before it ships. The EC700-AL-E3950-2LAN swaps two GbE ports for two more USB ports, and the EC700-AL-E3940-4LAN uses the x5-E3940 with the same four GbE ports.
