DFI VP070-M8M-D NXP i.MX 8M Dual 7″ In-Vehicle Panel PC with Front IP65, CAN and -20 to 70 °C

A driver HMI has to be readable at a glance, usable with a gloved finger and powered from the vehicle without a separate computer behind the dash. The VP070-M8M-D is the i.MX 8M Dual build of the DFI VP070-M8M series, a 7″ in-vehicle panel PC that combines the display, the computer and CAN bus in one housing with an IP65 front.

The 7 inch PCAP touchscreen runs at 1024 x 600 with 425 nits brightness. Behind it, the NXP i.MX 8M Dual provides two Arm Cortex-A53 cores at 1.3 GHz with 2 GB of LPDDR4, which suits a single job list, telematics or status application. Storage is 16 GB of eMMC 5.1, with up to 64 GB optional, and a microSD slot. The VP070-M8M-D ships with Android 9.0 by default, Yocto Linux 2.5 is optional, and a 6-axis IMU records motion.

I/O sits on the underside and rear: one GbE port, one RS-232/422/485 port and one RS-232 port on DB9, CAN bus on DB9, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a micro USB OTG port and a reset switch. An M.2 2242/3042 B key slot with a Nano SIM takes an optional 4G LTE module and an M.2 2230 E key slot takes optional Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Audio uses an SGTL5000 codec with internal line-out and mic-in headers, and a 2 W speaker amplifier is optional on the VP070-M8M-D.

Power is 9 to 36 V DC with ACC/IGN control, with configurable power delay and protection times. The VP070-M8M-D runs fanless from -20 °C to 70 °C, the aluminum and steel housing has an IP65 front, and it fits by panel mount or VESA mount. DFI lists E-Mark (E24) compliance with CE, FCC, UKCA and RoHS. We supply it configured and tested, with the OS image and any LTE or Wi-Fi module fitted. For more memory, the VP070-M8M-Q carries the i.MX 8M Quad with 4 GB, and the VP101-M8M-D-500 moves to a 10.1 inch screen.
