DFI VP101-M8M-D-1200 NXP i.MX 8M Dual 10.1″ In-Vehicle Panel PC with 1200-Nit Display and E-Mark

Tractors, construction plant and open-cab vehicles put the driver display in direct sun, where a standard screen washes out. The VP101-M8M-D-1200 is the i.MX 8M Dual, 1200-nit build of the DFI VP101-M8M series, a 10.1″ in-vehicle panel PC with a high-brightness touchscreen, E-Mark (E24) compliance and an IP65 front.

The 10.1 inch PCAP touchscreen runs at 1280 x 800 with 1200 nits brightness. Behind it, the NXP i.MX 8M Dual provides two Arm Cortex-A53 cores at 1.3 GHz with 2 GB of LPDDR4. Storage is 16 GB of eMMC 5.1, with up to 64 GB optional, plus a microSD slot. The VP101-M8M-D-1200 ships with Android 9.0 by default and Yocto Linux 2.5 as an option, and a 6-axis IMU with three accelerometer and three gyroscope axes supports motion logging.

I/O covers one GbE port, four serial ports (COM4 as RS-232/422/485, COM2 as four-wire RS-232, COM1 and COM3 as two-wire RS-232), CAN bus on DB9, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and micro USB OTG, with reset and re-download switches for servicing. An M.2 2242/3042 B key slot with a Nano SIM takes an optional 4G LTE module, an M.2 2230 E key slot takes optional Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and a 3 W speaker on an SGTL5000 codec is built into the VP101-M8M-D-1200.

Power is 9 to 36 V DC with ACC/IGN control and configurable power delay and protection times. The VP101-M8M-D-1200 runs fanless from -20 °C to 70 °C in an aluminum and steel housing with an IP65 front, by panel mount or VESA mount, and DFI lists E-Mark (E24) compliance with CE, FCC, UKCA and RoHS. We supply it configured and tested, with the OS image and any LTE or Wi-Fi module fitted. For more memory, the VP101-M8M-Q-1200 carries the Quad with 4 GB at the same brightness, and the VP101-M8M-D-500 suits enclosed cabs.
