DFI WL053 2.5" Pico-ITX SBCs with 8th Gen Intel Core and Wide-Range DC Input

Equipment in a control cabinet or a machine often runs from a 24 V DC supply, and a board that needs a regulated 12 V adds a converter to an enclosure that has little room to spare. The DFI WL053 series is built for that brief: a family of 2.5 inch Pico-ITX SBCs, also called Pico-ITX motherboards, measuring 100 x 72 mm, that accept 9 to 36 V DC directly on a terminal block and run fanless with a heat spreader.

Every WL053 shares the same board. One DDR4 SO-DIMM socket takes up to 32 GB of single-channel DDR4-2400, and Intel UHD Graphics handle hardware decode and encode for H.264 and HEVC. A DP++/HDMI combo port drives a monitor at up to 4096 x 2304 at 60 Hz over DP++ or 4096 x 2160 at 30 Hz over HDMI. Rear I/O covers one GbE port on an Intel I219V/I219LM controller and two USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports, and internal headers add two USB 2.0, one RS-232/422/485 port, 8-bit digital I/O and SMBus, or I2C as an option. Two M.2 B key 3042/2242 sockets take SATA or PCIe x1 SSDs and an M.2 E key 2230 adds a PCIe x2 or USB 2.0 card.

The standard-temperature builds are the WL053-BCA-8665UE (Core i7-8665UE), WL053-BCA-8365UE (Core i5-8365UE), WL053-BCA-8145UE (Core i3-8145UE) and WL053-BCA-4305UE (Celeron 4305UE). The extended-temperature builds, rated from -30 to 80 °C, are the WL053-ECA-8665UE (Core i7-8665UE), WL053-ECA-8365UE (Core i5-8365UE), WL053-ECA-8145UE (Core i3-8145UE) and WL053-ECA-4305UE (Celeron 4305UE). Core i7 and i5 builds are quad-core and support Intel AMT for remote management, the Core i3 is dual-core at a 2.2 GHz base clock, and the Celeron is the simplest option for lighter tasks.

Power is 9 to 36 V DC on a 2-pin terminal block, drawing a typical 5.16 W and up to 34.92 W on the i7 build at 12 V. Every WL053 is fanless and ships with an 11 mm heat spreader, with heatsinks and a 23 mm cooler as options. DFI rates standard builds from 0 to 60 °C and extended builds from -30 to 80 °C. The boards support Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 64-bit and Linux in UEFI mode, with fTPM 2.0 and a watchdog timer, and carry CE, FCC and UKCA marks and RoHS compliance.
