DFI WL171-NE-8665UE Intel Core i7-8665UE Mini-ITX Embedded Motherboard with Dual GbE and Wide Temperature

Inspection stations and heavier operator HMIs often combine image handling, a database and a detailed interface on one controller, and that load needs more than a low-power processor offers. The WL171-NE-8665UE is the Core i7 build in the DFI WL171 series of Mini-ITX embedded motherboards, rated from -20 to 70 °C and fed from 12 V DC.

Its Intel Core i7-8665UE (Whiskey Lake) has four cores at 1.7 GHz, bursting to 4.4 GHz, with 8 MB of cache in a 15 W TDP. Two DDR4 2400 MHz SO-DIMM slots take up to 32 GB, enough for in-memory buffers and several services. Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives three independent displays: two rear DP++ outputs at up to 4096 x 2304 at 60 Hz and a dual-channel LVDS header. The Intel I219LM port supports vPro and AMT, so a board in a locked cabinet can be managed out of band.

Four rear USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports at 10 Gbps suit USB cameras and fast drives, with four internal USB 2.0 headers alongside. An M.2 M-key (2242/2260/2280) with PCIe x4 takes an NVMe SSD, two SATA 3.0 ports support RAID 0, 1 and 5, and a PCIe x4 Gen3 slot adds a frame grabber or fieldbus card. Two GbE ports (Intel I210AT and I219LM), an M.2 E-key for Wi-Fi, two COM ports and 8-bit DIO complete the I/O.

The WL171-NE-8665UE runs from 12 V DC on a barrel connector or 4-pin header and operates from -20 to 70 °C, with a discrete TPM 2.0 and a watchdog. If four cores at a lower clock are enough, WL171-NE-8365UE keeps vPro and the same temperature range with the Core i5-8365UE. For simpler indoor tasks, WL171-NB-8145UE offers a dual-core Core i3 at -5 to 65 °C.
