Premio CT-NR101-R1606G 1.8″ Femto-ITX SBC with AMD Ryzen Embedded R1606G and Dual Micro HDMI

Some embedded designs have almost no room for a board: a slim signage player or an embedded controller in a tight enclosure. The CT-NR101-R1606G is Premio’s answer, a 1.8 inch Femto-ITX SBC that measures 84 x 55 mm, also called a Femto-ITX motherboard, with an AMD Ryzen Embedded processor, memory and storage all on the board, so nothing needs to be fitted before it goes into the enclosure.

The AMD Ryzen Embedded R1606G has two cores and four threads at up to 3.5 GHz with 4 MB cache and AMD Radeon Vega 3 graphics. Memory is 4 GB of single-channel DDR4-2400 soldered to the board, with 8 GB available as an option, which removes the SO-DIMM socket and its height from the design. Two Micro HDMI 1.4 outputs support resolutions up to 4096 x 2160 at 24 Hz and drive two independent displays, which suits a pair of signage screens from one small board.

One Gigabit Ethernet port on an Intel i210 controller supports Wake-on-LAN and PXE boot. A USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port rated at 5 V and 3 A sits on the rear edge, with a further USB 2.0 header inside. Storage is eMMC up to 64 GB, and a full-size Mini PCIe slot (PCIe x1, USB 2.0) takes a wireless module or another add-on card. Two 5-pin headers provide 4 digital inputs and 4 outputs, and SMBus is available for expansion. Where more I/O is needed, the CT-DR101 series carries the same R1606G on a 3.5 inch board with two LAN ports and three displays.

Power is 12 V DC on a 2-pin terminal block with a 5.0 mm pitch, which suits direct wiring in a cabinet. TPM 2.0 is on board. The board operates from 0 to 60 °C, stores from -40 to 85 °C and handles 5 to 90% humidity, non-condensing, and Premio supplies it with a heat sink, a front panel cable and a screw for the Mini PCIe card. Windows 10 and Linux kernel 5.x, including Fedora 30 or above and Ubuntu 19.04 or above, are supported.
