DFI EC700-AL-E3940-4LAN-2DP Intel Atom x5-E3940 Low-Profile Embedded PC with 4x GbE, 2x DP and -40 to 70 °C

Signage and control stations with two modern screens are simpler to wire when both outputs are digital. The EC700-AL-E3940-4LAN-2DP is the dual DisplayPort build of the DFI EC700-AL series: a low-profile fanless embedded PC with an Intel Atom x5-E3940, two DisplayPort outputs, four GbE ports and four COM ports.

The Atom x5-E3940 runs four Apollo Lake cores, which suits signage players, HMI front ends and monitoring dashboards. Memory is 4 GB of DDR3L onboard plus one 204-pin SO-DIMM, up to 8 GB in total, and 32 GB of eMMC holds the OS. Intel HD Graphics drives two displays, and the EC700-AL-E3940-4LAN-2DP runs Windows 10 IoT or Linux, as DFI states for Apollo Lake.

Networking is four Intel I210 GbE ports on RJ45, with two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, four RS-232/422/485 ports on DB9 and two DisplayPort outputs, the first at up to 4096×2160 at 60 Hz. Storage is a 2.5-inch SATA bay and a full-size mSATA slot, plus the onboard eMMC. A full-size Mini PCIe slot with nano-SIM takes an optional 4G module, and an M.2 2230 E key slot takes optional Wi-Fi, with antenna holes on the front panel.

Power is 9 to 36 V DC on a DC jack. DFI rates the EC700-AL-E3940-4LAN-2DP from -40 °C to 70 °C and lists CE, FCC Class A, RoHS, CCC, UL and KC compliance, and it mounts on a wall, a VESA plate or a DIN rail with optional kits. We supply it configured and tested, with memory, storage, the OS image and any 4G or Wi-Fi modules fitted before it ships. The EC700-AL-E3940-4LAN is the same processor with DisplayPort and VGA, and the EC700-AL-E3950-4LAN moves to the x7-E3950.
