DFI EHL051-TCD-6425RE Intel Atom x6425RE 2.5″ Pico-ITX SBC with Dual GbE and Extended Temperature

A gateway in a roadside or trackside cabinet sees frost in winter and direct sun in summer, and it has to keep polling field devices through both. The EHL051-TCD-6425RE is the quad-core Atom x6425RE build in the DFI EHL051 series of 2.5″ Pico-ITX SBCs, and it is the one to choose when that cabinet has no heating or cooling and the workload needs four cores.

The Intel Atom x6425RE (Elkhart Lake) has four cores at 1.9 GHz and a 12 W TDP. It is one of Intel’s RE parts, listed at a single clock rather than a burst frequency. One DDR4 3200 MHz SO-DIMM takes up to 32 GB, with in-band ECC for error correction on standard modules. Intel UHD Graphics drives HDMI at up to 4096 x 2160 and a dual-channel LVDS panel at 1920 x 1200, two displays at once.

Two GbE ports on Intel I226 controllers keep the field network apart from the uplink. Two rear USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, two internal USB 2.0 headers, two RS-232/422/485 ports and 8-bit DIO cover meters, PLCs and relays. An M.2 B-key takes a 4G or 5G module with its SIM slot, an M.2 E-key takes Wi-Fi, and a SATA 3.0 port adds a drive. TPM 2.0 and a watchdog of 1 to 255 seconds support unattended sites.

The EHL051-TCD-6425RE runs from 12 V DC on a 2-pin terminal block and operates from -40 to 85 °C, an extended temperature range, on its fanless heatsink, with CE, FCC, UKCA, RoHS and KC compliance. DFI quotes an MTBF of 563,338 hours at 25 °C for this build. The EHL051-TCD-6425E keeps four cores and the same range with bursts to 3.0 GHz, and EHL051-TCD-6214RE suits lighter duties at 6 W.
