DFI MTH556-ECN-155U Intel Core Ultra 7 155U (Meteor Lake) 3.5″ Embedded Board with 9 to 36 V DC Input and Wide Temperature

Edge gateways and line controllers often sit in unheated cabinets, warehouses or machine enclosures where the temperature falls below freezing in winter. The MTH556-ECN-155U is a wide temperature build of the DFI MTH556 series, rated from -20 to 70 °C: a 3.5″ embedded board, 146 x 102 mm, that brings a 12-core Intel Core Ultra processor to those locations.

The Intel Core Ultra 7 155U is a Meteor Lake processor with 12 cores and a 15 W TDP, running from 1.7 GHz up to 4.8 GHz. Integrated Intel graphics decodes and encodes AV1, HEVC, VP9 and AVC in hardware. Two DDR5 SO-DIMM sockets take up to 96 GB at 5600 MHz, which gives room for protocol conversion, local databases and container workloads on one board.

Two 2.5GbE ports on Intel I226LM and I226V controllers can link a field network to a site or cloud connection, and the M.2 B-key 3052 socket with nano SIM takes a 4G or 5G modem for remote sites. Four COM ports, two RS-232/422/485 and two RS-232, plus 8-bit DIO connect meters, PLCs and relays. Three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, two internal USB 2.0 ports, an M-key PCIe Gen4 x4 SSD socket and an E-key Wi-Fi socket complete the I/O, with HDMI, USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode and LVDS for up to three displays.

The board takes 9 to 36 V DC on a 4-pin connector and uses the active cooler DFI supplies. It runs Windows 11 and 10 IoT Enterprise 64-bit or Linux, with TPM 2.0, a programmable watchdog and CE, FCC, UKCA, KC and RoHS compliance. The MTH556-ECN-255U moves to the Arrow Lake Core Ultra 7 255U at up to 5.2 GHz with the same rating, and the MTH556-ECN-125U is the Core Ultra 5 alternative for lighter gateway loads.
