ZED-X-MINI-WIDE Overview
A camera on a robot wrist or above a picking bin has to see objects a hand’s width away, which a long-baseline stereo pair cannot do. The Stereolabs ZED-X-MINI-WIDE solves that with a 5 cm baseline and 2.2 mm lenses, making it the closest-working build in the ZED-X-MINI series for robot arms, pick-and-place cells and small mobile robots.
Depth starts at 0.1 m and runs to 8 m, with an ideal range to 4 m and accuracy within 1.6% at 2 m and 3% at 4 m. The 2.2 mm f/2.2 lenses cover up to 110° horizontally and 120° diagonally, so a target close to the camera stays in both eyes. Two 1/2.6″ 2.3MP global-shutter sensors output 1920 x 1200 at 60 fps or 960 x 600 at 120 fps, avoiding the skew a rolling shutter shows on a moving arm. The ZED SDK adds depth maps, point clouds, positional tracking, object detection and body tracking to 6 m, with a 200 Hz IMU on board.
The ZED-X-MINI-WIDE connects over GMSL2 with a lockable FAKRA Z connector, carrying video and power over coax up to 15 m at a typical 1.46 W. It runs on NVIDIA Jetson Orin and Xavier hosts with Jetson Linux, and a ZED-LINK-MONO card adds one camera to a Jetson Orin Nano or Orin NX developer kit. For more reach in the same body, the ZED-X-MINI-NARROW moves to 4.6 mm lenses, and the ZED-X-WIDE stretches the baseline to 12 cm for depth to 20 m.
The aluminum body is IP67-rated and runs from -20 °C to 60 °C at up to 90% humidity at 40 °C, rated for 2g RMS vibration from 3 to 500 Hz, which suits robot tooling on the factory floor. A 1/4″-20 thread, 2x M3 holes and 4x M4 rear holes fit end-of-arm brackets and the optional tiltable mount. We supply the ZED-X-MINI-WIDE tested on a Jetson Orin host with JetPack, the ZED SDK and GMSL2 capture configured, with optional FAKRA cables including right-angle types.
