The faster a vehicle moves, the further ahead it needs to see. An autonomous vehicle in a logistics yard or on a busy outdoor site needs depth well beyond a few meters. The Stereolabs ZED-X-NARROW is the long-range build of the ZED-X series, pairing 4.6 mm lenses with a 12 cm baseline so depth and person detection reach much further than the wide-angle version.
The 4.6 mm f/2.0 lenses cover 73° horizontally, 45° vertically and 87° diagonally. Depth runs from 1 m to 35 m, with an ideal range to 20 m and accuracy within 0.4% at 2 m and 7% at 20 m, and the ZED SDK tracks bodies to 15 m and detects objects in 3D to maximum depth. Two 1/2.6″ 2.3MP global-shutter sensors deliver 1920 x 1200 at 60 fps or 960 x 600 at 120 fps, so a moving target does not smear or skew between frames. A 200 Hz IMU rated to 12g supports tracking on rough surfaces.
The ZED-X-NARROW sends video and receives power over a single GMSL2 coax with a lockable FAKRA Z connector, for runs up to 15 m and a typical 1.46 W draw. Hosts are NVIDIA Jetson Orin and Xavier modules on Jetson Linux; on Jetson AGX Orin a ZED-LINK-QUAD takes up to eight cameras, synced within 100 µs. Close to the vehicle, the ZED-X-WIDE covers a 120° diagonal view, and the ZED-X-NARROW-POL adds a polarizer for glare outdoors.
The IP67-rated aluminum body runs from -20 °C to 60 °C at up to 90% humidity at 40 °C, and is rated for 2g RMS vibration from 3 to 500 Hz. A 1/4″-20 thread, 2x M3 holes and 4x M4 rear holes suit bumpers, masts and the optional tiltable mount. We supply the ZED-X-NARROW tested on a Jetson Orin host with JetPack, the ZED SDK and GMSL2 capture configured, and with optional FAKRA cables up to 15 m.
