PCI ExpressSC542N6 HYBRID Overview
A production or monitoring system with five SDI cameras usually also has a graphics PC or operator screen worth recording. The SC542N6 HYBRID is Yuan’s 6-channel PCIe SDI and DVI frame grabber for that set-up, capturing five SDI inputs and one DVI-I input at the same time from one PCIe x4 slot.
Capture runs at up to 1920 x 1080p at 60/50 fps. SDI covers 1080p60/50, HD-SDI at 1080p30/25/24, 1080i60/50 and 720p60/50, and SD-SDI, while the DVI-I input takes DVI-D and DVI-A signals with 1080i, 720p and PC timings. Capture and preview formats cover RGB24 and RGB32 at 4:4:4, YUY2 at 4:2:2, and YV12 and NV12 at 4:2:0, all at 8-bit. Six embedded audio channels are captured as stereo 16-bit at 32 to 48 kHz. On-board processing handles cropping and scaling, auto signal detection and deinterlacing. There is no built-in hardware encoder, so any encoding is left to the host software.
The card uses a PCIe x4 Gen2 link. Software support runs through Yuan’s Windows and Linux SDK and standard DirectShow and V4L2 drivers, and Yuan names vMix, OBS, Zoom, Skype, Teams, Discord, Slack, Cisco Webex and GoToMeeting as compatible. The SC542N4 HYBRID takes four SDI inputs plus DVI, and the SC542N8 SDI moves to eight SDI channels for camera-only systems.
Operating system support covers Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10, Linux from kernel 2.6.14 in 32-bit and 64-bit builds, Linux on ARM, and NVIDIA Jetson TX2, Nano, AGX Xavier and Xavier NX modules. The board measures 167.65 x 96.53 mm and carries 12 GPIO lines and a watchdog. Yuan lists multi-device and multi-instance support, for hosts that run more than one card or capture session.
