Axiomtek AX92352 Dual Channel PCIe Encoder Card with Real Time Trigger I/O

The AX92352 is Axiomtek's 2-channel encoder card with real-time trigger I/O, a PCI Express x1 vision I/O card with quadrature encoder inputs, isolated trigger inputs and outputs and isolated digital I/O. It suits line scan and area scan systems that must synchronize cameras and frame grabbers.

  • 2-Channel Encoder Input: Two 32-bit incremental quadrature encoder inputs (A/B/Z) at up to 1 MHz track conveyor or axis position.
  • Real-Time Trigger I/O: Four isolated trigger inputs and four trigger outputs respond in 1 us, so cameras capture at the right moment.
  • Isolated Digital I/O: Eight isolated digital inputs and eight isolated outputs connect sensors, rejects and other plant devices.
  • 2 kV DC Isolation: The I/O is isolated to 2 kV DC, which protects the host PC from field wiring faults.
  • Programmable Interrupts: Interrupts from DI, trigger and latch inputs, encoder Z phase and FIFO events reduce polling by the host.

AX92352 Overview

Line scan and multi-camera area scan systems only produce sharp, correctly spaced images when every capture is tied to the position of the part. The AX92352 is Axiomtek’s 2-channel encoder card with real-time trigger I/O, a vision I/O card that synchronizes multiple frame grabbers in line scan and multiple cameras in area scan. It fits the PCI Express slot of a vision control system, and we specify it for the inspection systems we build.

The card provides two 32-bit incremental quadrature encoder inputs (A/B/Z), accepting differential or single-ended 5 V and 12 V open-collector signals at up to 1 MHz. Counter modes run from x1/4 to x4, with a programmable de-bounce filter. Operating modes include linear function, FIFO and position latch, which support position comparison and linear triggering. The host interface is PCI Express x1.

Four isolated trigger inputs (sink, on from 3.3 to 30 V DC) and four isolated trigger outputs (0 to 30 V DC open collector, 100 mA per channel) respond in 1 us from input to output. Outputs derive from the trigger inputs or encoders, with settable pulse delay and duration. Eight isolated digital inputs and eight isolated outputs (200 mA per channel) handle other devices, and programmable interrupts cover DI, encoder Z phase and FIFO events. For lighting, the AX92353 module adds four LED channels and works with this card. Our guide to machine vision synchronization gives wider context.

The card draws 180 mA at 3.3 V and 120 mA at 12 V maximum, with 2 kV DC isolation on the I/O and a 44-pin female D-sub connector. It operates from 0 to +70 °C, stores from -20 to +80 °C and measures 168 x 100 mm. Windows 7 and 10 (32/64-bit) are supported, with C# and C/C++ programming.

Official Axiomtek USA Distributor

Things Embedded is an official Axiomtek USA distributor, supplying the AX92352 for USA machine vision and inspection programs. Within the Axiomtek range the AX92353 lighting control module pairs with this card to drive four LED channels, and the AX92325-4PoE powers four GigE cameras that this card can trigger.

As a vision I/O card the AX92352 sits among our machine vision frame grabbers and our PCIe expansion cards for inspection systems. Where line scan or multi-camera capture must follow encoder position with microsecond trigger timing, this is the card to specify.
