DFI AL053 2.5" Pico-ITX SBCs with Intel Atom E3900 and Wide-Range DC Input

Machines and vehicles rarely offer a clean 12 V rail, and a small board that needs its own regulated supply adds parts, wiring and space. The DFI AL053 series is built for that brief: a family of 2.5 inch Pico-ITX SBCs, also called Pico-ITX motherboards, with a 9 to 36 V DC input, two display outputs and fanless cooling on a 100 x 72 mm board.

Every AL053 shares the same layout. One 204-pin DDR3L-1866 SO-DIMM socket takes up to 8 GB in single channel. Intel HD Graphics decodes H.264 and H.265 in hardware and drives two independent displays: Mini DP++ on the rear up to 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz, and dual-channel 18/24-bit LVDS with an LCD and inverter power header for a built-in panel. The rear edge carries one GbE port on an Intel I211AT controller, with Intel I210IT on request, and two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports. Internal headers add two USB 2.0 ports, one RS-232/422/485 port, 8-bit digital I/O, SMBus and HD audio on a Realtek ALC262-VC2-GR codec. An M.2 B key 2242 socket takes a PCIe or SATA SSD, and a full-size Mini PCIe socket takes an add-on card.

The builds differ by processor and temperature grade. For 0 to 60 °C the AL053-BC-E3930 runs the dual-core Atom x5-E3930 at 6.5 W, the AL053-BC-E3940 the quad-core Atom x5-E3940 at 9.5 W, the AL053-BC-E3950 the quad-core Atom x7-E3950 at 12 W and the AL053-BC-N3350 the dual-core Celeron N3350 at 6 W. The AL053-EC-E3930 takes the x5-E3930 to -20 to 70 °C. For -40 to 85 °C the AL053-TC-E3930 runs the x5-E3930 and the AL053-TC-E3950 the quad-core x7-E3950. A Pentium N4200 build is available on request with a minimum order quantity.

Power is 9 to 36 V DC on a 2-pin terminal block. Every AL053 is fanless and ships with a heat spreader, with heatsinks available as options, and storage temperature is -40 to 85 °C at 5 to 90% humidity. fTPM 2.0 and a watchdog timer programmable from 1 to 255 seconds are built in, and the boards boot in UEFI mode only with support for Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 64-bit and Linux. They carry CE and FCC marks. The series suits compact equipment that takes its power straight from a machine or vehicle DC supply, where the -40 to 85 °C builds cover enclosures that see frost and heat.
