DFI EC700-ASL Intel Amston Lake Fanless Industrial Computers with 2.5GbE, OOB and Extended Temperature

Outdoor cabinets and unheated plant rooms ask two things of a small computer: keep running from frost to summer heat, and recover without a site visit when something goes wrong. The DFI EC700-ASL series is a family of slim fanless industrial computers built around both, pairing Intel Atom x7000RE Amston Lake processors rated from -40 °C to 60 °C with DFI Out-of-Band management for remote power on and off, reset and BIOS update without an OS agent.

Both EC700-ASL builds share one design. Memory is 16 GB of LPDDR5 4800 soldered down, TPM 2.0 is on board, and Intel TCC is supported for time-sensitive control. Networking is two Intel i226 2.5GbE ports, with TSN available by project, and one Intel i210 GbE port that carries DFI OOB. Serial is two RS-232/422/485 and two RS-232 ports on DB9 with DIO on COM4, and HDMI, VGA and USB-C with DisplayPort alt mode drive three displays. An M.2 M key slot takes NVMe or SATA storage, and M.2 B key with SIM and M.2 E key slots take optional 4G/5G and Wi-Fi. A programmable watchdog timer resets the system if the software stops responding, and DFI also offers a taller EC710-ASL version by project.

The two builds differ in core count. The EC700-ASL-x7433RE carries the quad-core Atom x7433RE at a 9 W TDP, which suits gateways, data collection and control software. The EC700-ASL-x7835RE carries the 8-core Atom x7835RE at a 12 W TDP, for edge sites that run several containers, a historian and a local dashboard at once. Both share the same I/O, so one software image and one cabinet layout can typically cover sites with light and heavier workloads.

In practice the EC700-ASL series suits roadside and pumping station cabinets, car parks, utility kiosks, transport hubs and outdoor signage enclosures. Power is 9 to 36 V DC on a DC jack, both builds run from -40 °C to 60 °C with 0.2 m/s airflow, and shock and vibration are tested to MIL-STD-810G. DFI lists CE, FCC, RoHS and UKCA compliance, and each EC700-ASL mounts on a wall, a VESA plate or a DIN rail with optional kits. The systems run Windows 11 IoT Enterprise or Ubuntu 22.04.
