DFI ED700-EHL Intel Elkhart Lake DIN Rail PCs with 2.5GbE, Isolated I/O and Extended Temperature Options

Control panels are built around the DIN rail, and a computer that clips straight onto it saves cutting a new back plate. The DFI ED700-EHL series is a family of fanless DIN rail PCs on Intel Elkhart Lake processors, with the I/O on the front panel and the SIM slots and two USB 2.0 ports on top. Two versions are offered: the standard ED700-EHL and the ED700-EHL22I with isolated serial and digital I/O, so the same computer family can serve a simple gateway and a panel wired straight to field devices.

Every ED700-EHL shares the same core design. Memory is 4 GB or 8 GB of DDR4 onboard plus one DDR4 3200 SO-DIMM, up to 32 GB in total, with in-band ECC on the Atom builds. Storage is 16 GB or 32 GB of eMMC and an M.2 2280 SATA slot. Networking is one 2.5GbE TSN port with two or three Intel GbE ports, and an M.2 B key slot with dual SIM takes an optional 5G Sub-6 or 4G module, while an M.2 E key slot takes optional Wi-Fi 6. VGA drives one display, two RS-232/422/485 ports sit on DB9, and an Allxon OOB Enabler is optional by request.

Five builds cover the range. The ED700-EHL-J6412 is the Celeron J6412 entry build for 0 °C to 60 °C. The ED700-EHL-x6413E moves to the Atom x6413E and -40 °C to 60 °C, and the ED700-EHL-x6425E adds a third GbE port with the 12 W Atom x6425E. In the 22I version, the ED700-EHL22I-J6412 adds two isolated RS-232 ports and six isolated inputs with six isolated outputs on terminal blocks, and the ED700-EHL22I-x6425RE combines that isolated I/O with the Atom x6425RE, Intel TCC, four Ethernet ports and -40 °C to 60 °C.

In practice the ED700-EHL series suits machine and process control panels, building services, substations, pumping sites and remote cabinets that report over 4G or 5G. Power is 9 to 36 V DC on a terminal block, and each ED700-EHL mounts on a DIN rail or a wall, with two wall brackets in the box. DFI quotes 3G operating shock and random vibration to IEC 60068-2-64, and lists CE, FCC, RoHS and UKCA compliance. The systems run Windows or Ubuntu 20.04 with UEFI boot, and a programmable watchdog timer resets the system if the software stops responding.
