DFI EHL253-x6425RE Quad-Core Intel Atom x6425RE 4″ EPIC Single Board Computer with 9 to 36 V DC Input and -40 to 80 °C

A trackside or roadside cabinet may need to talk to a signaling network, a camera network, a maintenance port and an uplink at once, from -40 °C to a hot summer afternoon. The EHL253-x6425RE is the Atom x6425RE build in the DFI EHL253 series of 4″ EPIC single board computers, with four LAN ports and an extended temperature range.

Its Intel Atom x6425RE (Elkhart Lake) has four cores at 1.9 GHz and a 12 W TDP, with Intel Time Coordinated Computing (TCC) support for deterministic timing in control loops. Memory is 4 or 8 GB of soldered DDR4 plus one DDR4 3200 MHz SO-DIMM slot, up to 32 GB in total, with in-band ECC that can be enabled in the BIOS (it ships disabled). Intel UHD Graphics drives a rear DP++ output and a VGA header, two independent displays.

Networking is one 2.5GbE port on an Intel I225 controller with Time-Sensitive Networking, plus three GbE ports on Intel I210 or I211 controllers, so control, camera and uplink networks stay separate. Two rear USB 3.1 Type-A ports and three internal USB 2.0 connections handle peripherals. Two RS-232/422/485 ports on DB9 connectors, two RS-232 headers and 8-bit DIO connect field devices. The M.2 M-key takes a SATA SSD, the E-key takes Wi-Fi, the B-key takes a 4G or 5G module with dual Nano-SIM slots, and a SATA 3.0 port adds a drive.

The EHL253-x6425RE runs from 9 to 36 V DC on a barrel jack or 4-pin connector and operates from -40 to 80 °C with active fan cooling, carrying CE and FCC compliance, TPM 2.0 and a 1 to 255 second watchdog. For indoor work with more USB, the EHL253-J6412 offers four USB 3.1 ports at 0 to 80 °C.
