DFI EHL556-6425E 3.5″ SBC with Intel Atom x6425E, LVDS, Triple Display and -40 to 85 °C

An HMI or gateway board in a cold cabinet still has to run a full graphical interface across more than one screen, not just log data. The EHL556-6425E is the Atom x6425E build in the DFI EHL556 series: a 3.5 inch SBC rated -40 to 85 °C, with an LVDS panel interface, two COM ports and a wide-range DC input.

The Intel Atom x6425E is a quad-core Elkhart Lake processor running at 2.0 GHz base and up to 3.0 GHz in a 12 W envelope, which gives room for graphical HMI and gateway software. One DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM socket takes up to 32 GB. Intel HD Graphics drives three independent displays: VGA, a DP++ output at up to 4096 x 2304 at 60 Hz and an LVDS connector at up to 1920 x 1200 for a built-in panel.

On the rear are two GbE ports on Intel I225-IT controllers, two USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports at 10 Gbps, the DP++ output and VGA. Internal headers add four USB 2.0, one RS-232/422/485 port, one RS-232 port, line-out and mic-in on a Realtek ALC888 and one SATA 3.0 port. Expansion is an M.2 2230 E key that supports Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 modules, plus a Mini PCIe socket that can be built as an M.2 2280 B key for a SATA SSD. TPM 2.0 is listed on this part. The EHL556-6413E is the Atom x6413E build at 9 W for lower heat, and the EHL556-N6210 swaps LVDS for eDP with GPIO and I2C.

Power is a 9 to 36 V DC wide-range input on a DC jack or vertical 4-pin connector, so it runs from 12 V or 24 V supplies. The EHL556-6425E is rated -40 to 85 °C for operation and storage at 5 to 90% humidity, which suits unheated cabinets and outdoor enclosures. A heatsink and heatspreader thermal module is listed as an optional item. The board measures 146 x 102 mm on the 3.5 inch SBC footprint, and DFI lists Windows 10 IoT LTSC (2019 and 2021) and Linux.
