DFI KU551 Fanless 3.5" SBCs with 7th Gen Intel Core and Triple Display

An HMI or machine controller usually needs a panel interface, a second screen, serial ports and two networks, all on a board small enough to fit behind the display. The DFI KU551 series is built for that brief: a family of fanless 3.5 inch SBCs on 7th Gen Intel processors, with triple display, two Intel GbE ports and two RS-232/422/485 ports on one 146 x 102 mm board.

Every KU551 shares one layout. One DDR4 SO-DIMM socket takes up to 16 GB of single-channel DDR4-1866 or 2133, and Intel HD Graphics drives VGA at up to 1920 x 1200, dual-channel 48-bit LVDS or eDP at up to 1920 x 1200 and DP++ at up to 4096 x 2304 at 60 Hz as three independent displays. The rear edge carries two GbE ports on an Intel I210AT and an Intel I219LM with iAMT 11.6, four USB 3.0 ports, VGA and DP++. Internal headers add two RS-232/422/485 ports, two USB 2.0, 8-bit DIO, SATA 3.0 and Realtek ALC888 audio, with a full-size Mini PCIe socket (PCIe/USB) and an M.2 2242 B key with PCIe, USB 2.0 and SATA signals for expansion, and an extension I/O connector on request. The I219LM supports iAMT 11.6, which lets the board be managed remotely.

The 0 to 60 °C builds are the KU551-BN-3965U with a Celeron 3965U at 2.2 GHz, the KU551-BN-7100U with a Core i3-7100U at 2.4 GHz, the KU551-BN-7300U with a Core i5-7300U at up to 3.5 GHz and the KU551-BN-7600U with a Core i7-7600U at up to 3.9 GHz. The same four processors are offered rated -20 to 70 °C as the KU551-EN-3965U, KU551-EN-7100U, KU551-EN-7300U and KU551-EN-7600U, for enclosures that see frost or heat. Every build has the same I/O, so one enclosure and cable set can take any of the eight.

Power is a single 12 V DC input (±5%) on a 4-pin right-angle connector, with a DC jack or vertical 4-pin connector on request; DFI quotes 10.8 W idle and 38.5 W maximum for the i7-7600U. Every build is fanless with a 25.8 mm heatsink supplied, and storage is rated -40 to 85 °C. Firmware TPM 2.0 and a watchdog timer are on board. The series supports Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 64-bit, Linux and Yocto, and carries CE, FCC, RoHS and UL marks.
