DFI HPT171-CB-8840U AMD Ryzen 7 8840U (Hawk Point) Mini-ITX SBC with Dual 2.5GbE and Triple Display

Slim gaming cabinets, ticket machines and wall-mounted kiosks often have little room for airflow, yet still drive a large interface screen and a secondary display. The HPT171-CB-8840U is the eight-core, 28 W build in the DFI HPT171 series of Mini-ITX motherboards: the same core count as the 45 W Ryzen 7 build, with a lower thermal load for tighter enclosures.

The AMD Ryzen 7 8840U (Hawk Point) has eight cores and 16 threads at 3.3 GHz base and up to 5.1 GHz boost, with a 28 W TDP that DFI lists as configurable from 15 to 30 W. Radeon 780M graphics, the larger of the two GPUs in the series, handle 4K video and 3D interfaces. Two DDR5 SO-DIMM sockets take up to 96 GB at 4800 MHz.

Three DP++ outputs run at up to 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz, and an M.2 A-key socket takes a DFI display module for a fourth screen on LVDS, eDP, HDMI, DP or VGA, which suits a cabinet with a built-in panel and a separate topper display. Two ccTalk headers connect coin and note acceptors, two TTL headers can take a ticket printer or card reader, and RS-232 and RS-232/422/485 on DB9 serve other serial devices, with 8-bit DIO for buttons and lamps. Networking is two Intel I226 2.5GbE ports, with two USB 3.2 Gen 2 and two USB 2.0 rear ports and four USB 2.0 ports on internal headers.

Expansion is a PCIe x16 slot with eight Gen4 lanes and an M.2 2280 socket for PCIe Gen4 x4 or SATA storage, plus two SATA ports. The HPT171-CB-8840U runs from 12 V DC on a barrel connector or 4-pin connector and operates from -5 to 65 °C, with CE, FCC and RoHS compliance.
