DFI VC700-ASL Intel Amston Lake Rugged Embedded PCs with E-Mark, ITxPT, M12 LAN and -40 to 70 °C

Public transport operators are moving ticketing, passenger information, CCTV and telematics onto shared ITxPT networks, which puts one computer at the heart of each vehicle. The DFI VC700-ASL series is a family of rugged embedded PCs built for that job, with Intel Atom x7000RE processors, GNSS, CAN, M12 Ethernet and ITxPT among the approvals DFI lists alongside E-Mark (E24) compliance.

Every VC700-ASL model shares one design. Memory is LPDDR5-5200 soldered down and the OS sits on removable 64 GB or 128 GB eMMC, with an M.2 2242/2280 slot for an NVMe or SATA SSD. Two Intel I210 GbE ports use M12 X-coded connectors, one shared with DFI out-of-band (OOB) management for remote power on/off, reset and BIOS update over the network, without an OS agent. The rear panel carries two RS-232/422/485 ports, two CAN 2.0B with J1939 (CAN FD by request), isolated 8-bit DIO at 2.5 kV and a 10 W speaker amplifier, beside four USB 3.2 ports, HDMI and DP++. An onboard u-blox NEO-M9N tracks GPS, QZSS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou, a 9-axis IMU reports motion and heading, and M.2 and mini PCIe slots take optional 4G/5G and Wi-Fi modules on Fakra antennas.

The five VC700-ASL models differ in processor, memory and storage. The VC700-ASL-x7835RE-8G pairs the eight-core x7835RE at 12 W with 8 GB for several services or camera streams at once. The VC700-ASL-x7835RE-4G keeps the eight-core processor with 4 GB for lean single-purpose images. The VC700-ASL-x7433RE has four cores at 9 W and 4 GB, a balance of processing and power draw. The VC700-ASL-x7211RE has two cores at 6 W and 4 GB, the lowest power draw for gateways and loggers. The VC700-ASL-x7835RE-8G-SSD adds two swappable 2.5″ SATA drive bays to the 8 GB eight-core build for on-board recording.

In practice the VC700-ASL series suits city buses, coaches, trams and service fleets, along with emergency and utility vehicles that need GNSS and CAN in one unit. Every model runs fanless from -40 °C to 70 °C on 9 to 36 V DC with ignition control, is shock and vibration tested to MIL-STD-810G and wall mounts. DFI lists CE, FCC, E-Mark (E24) compliance, ITxPT, RoHS and UKCA, and the VC700-ASL series runs Windows 11 or Ubuntu 22.04.
