Diamond Systems EPS-12000-CM Compact 12 Port Managed Gigabit Ethernet Switch Boards for Vehicles

Unmanned aircraft and small ground vehicles need a managed switch that fits beside the mission computer, holds its connections under vibration and runs straight from vehicle power. The Diamond Systems EPS-12000-CM series meets that with a small form factor Ethernet switch board: Diamond’s EPSM-10GX switch module stacked on a same-size carrier that holds the power supply and magnetics, making a complete switch the size of a business card.

Every EPS-12000-CM offers 12 10/100/1000 copper Ethernet ports with non-blocking wire-speed performance, all on latching connectors in place of RJ-45 jacks. An embedded processor runs the switch, managed through an in-band web interface over an Ethernet port or an out-of-band command-line interface over RS-232. Switching features include 8K MAC addresses, 4K IEEE 802.1Q VLANs, 8K IPv4 and IPv6 multicast groups, jumbo frames, IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation, RSTP and MSTP, and 8 priorities with 8 CoS queues per port. MEF E-Line, E-LAN and E-Tree services are also listed. The boards work standalone or with a host computer and ship with all firmware loaded, so they run without development work.

The EPS-12000-CM runs WebStaX Layer 2 software with an integrated heat sink, and the EPS-12000-CMH runs the same software with a heat spreader that mounts directly to an enclosure wall. The EPS-12000-CM-1588 and EPS-12000-CMH-1588 run IStaX Layer 3 software with a heat sink and a heat spreader respectively; their suffix marks the builds intended for IEEE-1588 timing, but the datasheet lists only the Layer 3 package, so confirm PTP needs with us. Choose the heat sink where air moves across the board, and the heat spreader where a sealed enclosure wall can carry the heat away.

A built-in wide-range DC supply accepts industrial and vehicle power, and consumption is 11 W at 12 V input. ActiPHY and PerfectReach power down unused ports and cut drive power on short cables, and VeriPHY adds cable diagnostics. Every board operates from -40 to +85 °C, and the CK-EPS12000 cable kit adds a serial cable to DB9, a power cable and three 4-port Ethernet cables. Diamond names industrial, on-vehicle and military use, UAVs and other unmanned vehicles, and outdoor installations as target applications.
