EPS-12G0 Overview
A vehicle or machine network with a dozen copper devices needs a managed switch that survives vibration and wide temperatures, without paying for fiber sockets it will never use. The EPS-12G0 is the copper-only build in the Diamond Systems EPS-12G2 series: a standalone Ethernet switch board that runs without a host computer, designed by Diamond for industrial, on-vehicle and military applications.
It carries 12 10/100/1000 Mbps copper ports with non-blocking wire-speed performance and no SFP sockets. Switching is Layer 2+, run by a built-in MIPS processor with embedded management software and 4 Mb of packet memory. You manage it through a web interface over one of the Ethernet ports, or out of band through a command-line interface on the RS-232 port. On-board memory holds dual application images, and the board ships with its firmware loaded, so it runs without development effort.
The software supports 8K MAC addresses, 4K IEEE 802.1Q VLANs with push and pop of up to two tags, and 8K IPv4 and IPv6 multicast groups. Each port has 8 priorities and 8 QoS queues with shaping and policing, and IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation, RSTP, MSTP, IEEE 802.1X and storm control are included. For fiber links, the EPS-12G1 adds one SFP socket and the EPS-12G2 adds two. Our guide to VLANs explains how segmentation works.
Power comes through a built-in +5 to +40 V DC supply, with 9.2 W maximum consumption when all ports are active. The board operates from -40 to +85 °C with its heat sink. Latching connectors give better protection against vibration than commercial RJ-45 designs. The CK-EPS12G2 cable kit provides serial, Ethernet and power cables for bench work, and Diamond quotes an MTBF of 122,656 hours.

Official Diamond Systems USA Distributor
Things Embedded is an official Diamond Systems USA distributor, supplying the EPS-12G0 for USA defense and vehicle programs. Within the Diamond range the EPS-12G1 adds one 1G/2.5G SFP socket for a fiber link, and the EPS-24G4X offers 24 copper ports and four 10G SFP+ sockets for larger networks.
As a copper-only managed board, the EPS-12G0 sits among our board-level Ethernet switches, our embedded Ethernet switches and our wider network switches. Where twelve copper devices need Layer 2+ management and no fiber link is planned, this is the build to specify.
