SDI Repeater Overview
SDI signals lose quality on long cable runs between a camera position and the gallery, a stage and the rack, or one building zone and the next. The Yuan SDI Repeater is designed to restore the signal partway along those runs in broadcast, live production and pro AV installations. The SDI Repeater is a single-channel reclocking amplifier for 3G, HD and SD-SDI.
There is one SDI input and one SDI loop-through output carrying the input format unchanged. Supported formats are 3G-SDI at 1920 x 1080p60/50, HD-SDI at 1080p30/25/24, 1080i60/50 and 720p60/50, and SD-SDI at 480i and 576i. Up to 16 channels of 24-bit, 48 kHz embedded audio pass through with the picture. The source format is detected automatically, and the output is reclocked and amplified to restore signal quality.
The SDI Repeater runs from a 7.5V to 15V DC input in a compact housing. For 4K runs, the 12G-SDI Repeater does the same job at up to 4096 x 2160p60 with eight audio channels. For distances well beyond what copper can carry, the SDI to Optical Fiber sends 3G-SDI up to 10 km over single-mode fiber. When the same feed has to reach several destinations, the SDI Splitter reclocks it to four outputs.
In practice the repeater is placed along the cable route where the run would otherwise be too long for the signal. We supply the SDI Repeater configured and tested with the sources, displays and cabling it will connect to, so the whole path is checked before it goes in.
