ASRock Industrial iEP-5020G Intel Atom x7433RE Fanless Edge Gateways with PoE, Five LAN, 5G and Isolated DIO Options

Small controllers in industrial cabinets tend to pick up jobs over time: a serial device here, a PoE device there, a cellular link when the site has no wired uplink. The ASRock Industrial iEP-5020G series answers that with one fanless edge gateway design offered in five builds, so the I/O can be chosen to suit the cabinet rather than added later with extra modules. It sits in ASRock’s Industrial IoT Controller line as a newer Amston Lake counterpart to the live iEP-5000G.

Every iEP-5020G model runs the Intel Atom x7433RE, a quad-core Amston Lake processor at 1.5 GHz and 9 W, with one DDR5 4800 SO-DIMM socket for up to 16 GB and Intel In-Band ECC. Storage is an M.2 2280 Key M slot on PCIe Gen3 x2 for NVMe, with a Micro SD slot. Shared I/O covers two Intel I210-IT Gigabit ports and one Intel I226-IT 2.5GbE port with TSN and Intel TCC on LAN1 under Ubuntu, two RS-232/422/485 ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 2, one USB 2.0, a USB-C port with DisplayPort and a DisplayPort 1.4a output. TPM 2.0, a watchdog timer and Intel In-Band Manageability are built in, and Windows 11 and Linux are supported.

The builds differ in networking, wireless and I/O. The iEP-5020G-020 is the Basic model, with three LAN ports, an M.2 Key B slot and Nano SIM for an optional 4G or 5G module and an M.2 Key E slot for Wi-Fi 6E. The iEP-5020G-021 adds two IEEE 802.3af PoE ports at up to 15.4 W each for five LAN in all, on a 19 to 36 V DC input. The iEP-5020G-022 has five LAN ports without PoE and a Wi-Fi slot, and the iEP-5020G-023 pairs five LAN ports with the 4G/5G slot in place of Wi-Fi. The iEP-5020G-024 adds eight digital inputs and eight digital outputs with sink or source isolation at 36 V.

In practice these edge gateways suit DIN-rail control cabinets, machine-side data collection and remote sites that need a cellular uplink. The Basic, five-LAN and 8DIO builds take 6 to 36 V DC and are rated from -40 °C to 70 °C with airflow, and the PoE build runs from -40 °C to 50 °C. All models have 80 V surge protection on two 3-pin terminal blocks, are tested to 100 G shock and 5 Grms vibration with an SSD, and carry CE and FCC Class A marks. The iEP-5020G series gives one fanless design across five I/O builds.
