Axiomtek AX92324 Dual Port 10GbE PCI Express LAN Cards With Optional PoE

The Axiomtek AX92324 series is a family of 10GbE LAN cards with two RJ45 ports on an Intel X550-AT2 controller and a PCI Express x4 interface, in builds with or without IEEE 802.3at PoE. Both support 15.5KB jumbo frames and IEEE 1588 and run from 0 to +55 °C with air flow. The series suits machine vision and surveillance systems.

  • Two 10GbE Ports: Two RJ45 ports at 10 Gbps, 1 Gbps and 100 Mbps, plus 5 and 2.5 Gbps under Linux.
  • Intel X550-AT2: A single Intel X550-AT2 controller with 15.5KB jumbo frames and IEEE 1588.
  • PCI Express x4: A PCIe x4 host interface for high-bandwidth, low-latency camera links.
  • Standard RJ45 Cabling: RJ45 connectors let the 10GbE links run over standard copper cabling.
  • 0 to +55 °C With Air Flow: Operation from 0 to +55 °C with air flow on a 168 x 111 mm board.

AX92324 Description

Next-generation high-resolution cameras can fill a Gigabit link, and moving to 10GbE carries their images at speed over one cable. The Axiomtek AX92324 series combines two 10GbE ports with the option of IEEE 802.3at PoE, so a camera can take power and data from the same RJ45 cable. Axiomtek names machine vision, intelligent surveillance and network applications with high bandwidth and low latency needs, and we specify these cards for the systems we build.

Both builds share an Intel X550-AT2 controller driving two RJ45 ports. Data rates are 10 Gbps, 1 Gbps and 100 Mbps, with 5 Gbps and 2.5 Gbps available under Linux. The controller supports 15.5KB jumbo frames and IEEE 1588, and the host interface is PCI Express x4. Large jumbo frames reduce overhead on high-resolution image transfer, and IEEE 1588 lets the card join time-synchronised camera networks. RJ45 connectors keep the cabling standard, and the lower link rates let the same card serve Gigabit devices during a staged upgrade.

The variants differ in power delivery. The AX92324-PoE adds IEEE 802.3at PoE on both ports, supplying up to 20 W of PoE in total from the PCIe slot or up to 60 W with the 6-pin ATX power connector, with overload protection. Power Manager software and an API switch PoE on or off and set power budgets. Axiomtek quotes two different per-port figures, so we check camera loads against the 60 W total. The AX92324, ordered as AX92324-w/o PoE, carries data only for cameras with their own supply. Both share the same board, controller and drivers, so a system can use either build without software changes.

On the PoE build the ATX connector takes 12 V DC, drawing 6 A, or 24 V DC at 3 A in Axiomtek’s own systems only. The cards operate from 0 to +55 °C with air flow across the heat sink and store from -20 to +80 °C, at 10 to 95% humidity, non-condensing. Each board measures 168 x 111 mm, with Windows 7/10 and Linux support. Axiomtek offers a PoE power cable for its IPC962, IPC964 and IPC974 systems. The applications Axiomtek names are machine vision, intelligent surveillance and network applications.

Official Axiomtek USA Distributor

Things Embedded is an official Axiomtek USA distributor, supplying the AX92324 series for USA machine vision and surveillance programs. Within the Axiomtek range the AX92320 series offers two or four Gigabit PoE ports for lower-rate cameras, and the AX92322 series gives Gigabit ports without PoE.

The AX92324 series sits among our 10GbE camera cards, our frame grabber cards and our add-in cards. Where two 10GbE cameras need high-bandwidth links, with or without power over the cable, this is the Axiomtek series to specify.
