DFI AL05P-BC-23E40 2.5″ Pico-ITX SBC with Intel Atom x5-E3940, PoE-PD Power and 32 GB eMMC

Running a separate power cable to a small device on a wall, ceiling or pole often costs more than the device itself. The AL05P-BC-23E40 is the quad-core Atom x5-E3940 build for 0 to 60 °C in the DFI AL05P series: a 2.5 inch Pico-ITX SBC, also called a Pico-ITX motherboard, that takes its power from the same Ethernet cable that carries its data.

It runs a quad-core Intel Atom x5-E3940 at 1.6 GHz with bursts to 1.8 GHz, 2 MB cache and a 9.5 W TDP, which suits light control, display and gateway software. The board ships with 2 GB of memory down at 2400 MHz in single channel and 32 GB of onboard eMMC, so there are no memory or storage modules to fit. Intel HD Graphics decodes H.264 and H.265 in hardware and drives one Mini DP++ output up to 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz.

The rear edge carries one Gigabit Ethernet port on an Intel I211AT controller, which is also the PoE input, with Intel I210IT on request, and two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports. Internal headers add two USB 2.0 ports, one RS-232/422/485 port with ESD protection to ±15 kV air gap, 8-bit digital I/O and SMBus. A full-size Mini PCIe socket takes an add-on card. The AL05P-EC-23E40 is the same processor rated -20 to 70 °C, and the AL05P-BC-23E30 is the dual-core x5-E3930 build at 6.5 W.

Power is 48 V DC PoE as a powered device to IEEE 802.3af, with 0.5 kV isolation protection. The AL05P-BC-23E40 is fanless, operates from 0 to 60 °C with storage from -40 to 85 °C, and ships with a heat spreader, with heatsinks available as options. fTPM 2.0 and a watchdog timer programmable from 1 to 255 seconds are built in. The board measures 100 x 72 mm, boots in UEFI mode only and supports Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 64-bit and Linux. It carries CE and FCC marks.
