SABRECOM-VNS-002 Overview
On a vehicle, the computer is often the part that sits in the worst position: low in the hull, exposed to spray and wired straight into an electrical system that is anything but clean. The Diamond Systems SABRECOM-VNS-002 is a military rugged computer for that position, and it is the Linux model of the SABRECOM series. It runs an Intel Core i7-7660U inside a sealed IP67 enclosure milled from a single block of aluminum, with every connector on a D38999 style circular shell.
The SABRECOM-VNS-002 ships with 64-bit Linux installed on the flashdisk, a good fit for teams that build drivers, middleware and their own application code on an open software stack. Compute comes from Diamond’s Venus 3.5 inch SBC: the 7th Gen Kaby Lake Core i7-7660U is a dual-core, four-thread processor, paired here with 4 GB of DDR4 soldered to the board and a 16 GB rugged RSODIMM. Storage starts at 256 GB of TLC flash and can grow to 1 TB using SATA DOM and mSATA modules, each held by screws against shock.
The I/O on the SABRECOM-VNS-002 is split across two D38999 connectors: two Gigabit Ethernet ports, four RS-232/422/485 ports, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, HDMI and VGA, audio and 16 GPIO at 3.3 V. Inside, the Venus board offers a PCI/104-Express socket and two Mini PCIe sockets, so Diamond can add serial, CAN or analog I/O modules, with an extra front panel connector where the signal count calls for one.
Power comes from Diamond’s JMM-7500, an 80 W isolated supply with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704 and MIL-STD-1275 compliance across a 9-36 V DC input. The processor is conduction cooled into the lid, so the SABRECOM-VNS-002 runs without a fan from -40 to +75 °C, and Diamond has qualified SABRECOM systems to MIL-STD-202G shock and vibration. For the same hardware with Windows 10, see the SABRECOM-VNS-001.

Official Diamond Systems USA Distributor
Things Embedded is an official Diamond Systems USA distributor, supplying the SABRECOM-VNS-002 with the operating system loaded and tested before it ships. For a current-generation alternative, the SABRECOM-JSP uses COM Express Intel Core i7 and Xeon W modules with three expansion connector positions, while the SABRECOM-JRS brings the same processor options into a smaller enclosure with predefined Flex I/O. Both of those systems are built on Diamond's Jasper carrier board, so a program that starts on SABRECOM can move to a current processor while keeping MIL-DTL-38999 connectors, IP67 sealing and an isolated MIL-STD supply.
Across our range, the SABRECOM-VNS-002 sits with our mission computers and our waterproof IP67 computers for sealed installs. Its fanless -40 to +75 °C rating and isolated supply also place it among our extended temperature computers for unheated vehicle bays and outdoor equipment. Where a team maintains its own Linux build, the open OS and the internal expansion sockets give room to add drivers and I/O modules without changing the sealed enclosure.
