Diamond Systems SabreNet-12000 Rugged Sealed 12 Port Gigabit Layer 3 Managed Ethernet Switches

A vehicle or field network has to survive water, dust, temperature swings and dirty power, yet still route and manage traffic like a network in a server room. The Diamond Systems SabreNet-12000 series packs that into a sealed box: a family of rugged Ethernet switches that Diamond builds around its EPS-12000 board-level switch, with every link on circular MIL-DTL-38999 connectors instead of RJ-45 sockets.

All four builds share the same core. Twelve 10/100/1000Base-T copper Ethernet ports are grouped four and eight on two MIL-DTL-38999 connectors. Inside, an EPSM-10GX switch module sits on a carrier board that holds the magnetics, an RS-232 transceiver and the power circuits. Diamond’s embedded IStaX Layer 3 routing and switching software runs on the switch, and you manage it through a web interface on any port or a local RS-232 port on the four-port connector. The Layer 3 software handles routing between subnets alongside everyday switching, which helps where a network is split into separate segments for sensors, mission computers and communications. Diamond can customize the software branding and the connector arrangement.

The builds differ in power front end and timing. The SabreNet-12000-100 uses an integrated MIL-STD-461 power filter with a 7 to 34 V DC input in the low-profile case. The SabreNet-12000-120 adds IEEE-1588 PTP support to that build, with a 1PPS input for a GPS time source. The SabreNet-12000-200 replaces the filter with an isolated MIL-grade power supply based on Diamond’s JMM-7500, compliant with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704 and MIL-STD-1275, in a taller case. The SabreNet-12000-220 combines that supply with IEEE-1588 PTP support. Because all four share the same ports, connectors and software, a design can move between builds as its power or timing needs change.

The MIL-grade supply provides 500 V isolation between input and output, which suits vehicle and aircraft power buses, while the filtered builds keep the case shorter. Every build has an IP67 design enclosure and operates from -40 to +85 °C. Diamond publishes a shock and vibration test report for the SabreNet-12000 and a user manual, and offers a lab bench-grade external cable kit so the switch can run on the bench before its harness is built. The series suits sealed networks on vehicles and in exposed installations where cabling has to stay sealed.
