Diamond Systems JUPITER-MM-7000 Rugged 25–40 W PC/104 DC/DC Power Supplies with UPS Backup

Power interruptions are routine on vehicles: engine cranking, generator switchover and bus faults can all drop the supply for a moment, long enough to reboot a computer or corrupt a write. The Diamond Systems JUPITER-MM-7000 series answers that with PC/104 UPS power supplies that hold the stack up from a supercapacitor energy pack while the input recovers, in the same PC/104 form factor as the boards they power.

Every JUPITER-MM-7000 model runs from a 9 to 36 V DC input, carries a UPS input for a supercapacitor energy pack and includes a microcontroller that reports supply and backup status on LEDs and over USB to the host CPU, so software can shut down cleanly before the energy is spent. Diamond designed its SEP-7000 packs, storing up to 3300 J and quoted at about 300 seconds of hold-up at 10 W or 75 seconds at 40 W, for this input; its ordering table now lists them as end of life, so confirm the energy store when specifying. The family is designed to meet MIL-STD-810G shock and vibration specifications and operates from -40 to 85 °C on an integrated heat spreader mounting plate. The full-feature JMM-7300 models add an EMI filter and input stage that Diamond specifies to MIL-STD-461C/D/E/F, MIL-STD-704A/D/E/F, MIL-STD-1275A/B and DO-160, with transient, brownout and reverse polarity protection; system-level compliance still depends on the installation.

Six models are on our site. The JMM-7312-ISO-UPS and JMM-7305-ISO-UPS are the full-feature builds with 500 V isolation, at 12 V and 5 V respectively, both rated 40 W. The JMM-7312-UPS keeps the 12 V, 40 W output and MIL-STD stages without isolation, and the JMM-7305-UPS does the same at 5 V and 25 W. The basic JMM-7012-UPS at 12 V and 40 W and JMM-7005-UPS at 5 V and 25 W keep the UPS but leave out the MIL-STD filter stages, for commercial and industrial systems.

JUPITER-MM-7000 supplies typically sit in military ground vehicles, airborne systems, naval consoles and industrial cabinets, wherever a PC/104 stack has to survive brownouts and short outages. The 12 V models suit Diamond boards and Jetson carriers with 12 V inputs, and the 5 V models suit PC/104 SBCs that run from 5 V. Things Embedded supplies and specifies the series as Diamond builds it.
