Neousys MezIO-D230-50 32-Channel Isolated Digital I/O MezIO Module with 16 DI and 16 DO

A machine cell usually has more on/off signals than a computer has ports for: limit switches, door interlocks, start and stop buttons on the inputs, and stack lights, relays and valves on the outputs. Wiring those straight into a computer is where isolation earns its keep. The MezIO-D230-50 is the larger module in the Neousys MezIO-D230/D220 isolated DIO series, with 32 channels for that kind of job.

It adds 16 isolated digital inputs and 16 isolated digital outputs. Inputs read logic high from 5 to 24 V DC and logic low from 0 to 1.5 V DC. Outputs operate up to 24 V DC and sink up to 500 mA per channel at 100% duty. Both sides are read and written by polling. Inputs 0 to 7 can be wired for sink or source (NPN or PNP) individually, and inputs 8 to 15 are sink type on a common ground. Outputs are open-drain MOSFETs, normally open and at logic 0 at power-up, with a diode against spikes from inductive loads. Where 16 channels are enough, the MezIO-D220-50 has eight inputs and eight outputs with the same specification.

We fit the MezIO-D230-50 inside the Neousys system on its high-speed board-to-board connector with three-point mezzanine mounting, then configure and test the I/O before the system ships. Each system has one MezIO interface. The module fits the Nuvo-9000 series, including the LP versions, and the Nuvo-9160GC and Nuvo-9166GC computers.

All 32 channels leave the system on one 68-pin SCSI-II connector. Bringing every channel out on one connector keeps the cabling at the computer to a single run, with the screw terminals in the cabinet where the field wiring arrives.
